Brass Monkey Enduro MTB – 28th Nov 09

Brass Monkey Enduro MTB – 28th Nov 09

On Sunday the 28th I demonstrated my stupidity AND my dedication to mountain biking by lining up on the start line of the inaugural Brass Monkey enduro at Rushmore arena, ready for four hours of riding on what had been advertised as a well draining course. Overall, I felt really good for 3/4 of the race that I stuck around for. Unfortunately the weather was really bad, with a lot of rain, mud and wind, and I had to stop after 3 hours because my feet and some of my fingers were completely frozen.... [Read More]

Port Macquarie 70.3 Ironman – 1st Nov 09

Port Macquarie 70.3 Ironman – 1st Nov 09

Port Macquarie Half Ironman – Sandy Buchanan Over the weekend I completed my first Half Ironman at Port Macquarie NSW, I think this will probably read like a 101 of how not to prepare and complete your first attempt at this distance! My training was non-existent when I got out to Perth 3 months ago due to a silly back injury as a result of moving out of my flat and a rubbish physio. So changed physios and slowly got back into swimming and a bit of running but it wasn’t until about 5 weeks... [Read More]

Training, I mean working in Majorca – 60miles of Hills

Training, I mean working in Majorca – 60miles of Hills

It was a mild morning in Majorca, last time here the temperature was my nemesis, this time it would be the mountains of Majorca. Setting out at 9am there wasn’t much time until I was already stuck into the hill climbing. My legs felt strong, but I knew there were many more over the next 5-6 hours. Past the army barracks was the first of the winding switch-back climbing, with all the rain over the past few weeks the roads were not in the best condition, after reminding myself of the roads back... [Read More]

Energicer – Athlete Cooling System!

Energicer – Athlete Cooling System!

Energicer is a liquid solution that has a high evaporative cooling effect. Its key ingredients are a mix of denatured alcohol, menthol and camphor. By soaking the wrist bands in the Energicer solution and then wearing them against the skin, the evaporation effect provides a high rate of cooling to the surrounding area and to the rest of your body. A single use generally provides for around two hours of cooling. It is well known that physical activity generates heat, which can ultimately lead to a... [Read More]

Chilterns 100 – 31st May 09

Chilterns 100 – 31st May 09

107 miles, 24 hill climbs, 8500 feet in total – another Chilterns 100, starting at Great Missenden. Perfect day for riding, it was my second year tackling the tough hills located around the Chilterns north west of London. With a good 6 months of training I was looking to better my time and category from last year (7 hrs 12 min – bronze), hoping for under 6hrs 45 mins, to put me into the silver category. The ride started nicely with groups of 20 leaving the start, for those who had ridden... [Read More]
